Five Great Places to Visit in Europe in January

We all have those areas in our bodies that make us feel good. There are times when we feel like crying because of these areas.

These are the places that are in Europe that are truly special to me. They are the places that I return to time and time again.

1. Piazza San Marco, Venice Italy:

Located in the center of Venice, St. Mark's Square is characterized by the Campanile bell tower and the St. Mark's Basilica. Its central location makes it stand out from the other Italian cities.

The center of Venice is filled with pigeons and tourists. The two are so similar that they chase each other around like crazy.

As dusk falls I make my way to the steps surrounding the square. There are people waiting to see me, some of whom have been waiting for me for over an hour. The sun slowly fades as people move around the area, creating a subtle chill in the atmosphere. As the light fades I know that it is time to walk back to my bed.

2. The Stiftskirche Steps, Tübingen Germany:

This is one of those places that will keep you coming back for more. I spent the best year of my life in this town during a study abroad trip.

Located in the center of Tbingen, the Stiftskirche is a Gothic church that was among the first to convert to Protestantism. Its base is bordered by long rows of steps leading to a round, concreted fountain. Near its center is a narrow cobblestone road that leads to various buildings.

During the warmer months, I would join up with some of my friends from other countries for some impromptu beer and conversation. As we start our journey, we would purchase a couple of bottles of beer and head towards the window shop. Once inside, we would watch the locals close for the evening.

These students would occasionally spend the night hanging out in the cold, thinking about the topics they would discuss during the morning meeting.

3. The hill top in Kinskeho Zahrada, Prague Czech Republic

A lot of people who visit Prague Castle are captivated by the view from the hill. This park features various trails that lead to various locations, including the Eiffel Tower. If the weather is nice, take a walk through the park.

On your way up the trail, pass by the joggers and other locals enjoying the park. As the sun begins to set, the trees begin to appear in the background.

Sitting on this hillside with the clouds rolling by and the sun rising above makes me feel like I am in a relaxing movie.

4. The wave break in Cinque Terre, Monterosso Italy:

Cinque Terre is a region in Italy that consists of five small fishing villages located along a trail and train. These towns have a lot to offer visitors, from beaches to hikes to grape vines.

The town that is first on the west coast is Monterosso. It is known for its massive beach and some of the best seafood spaghetti that I have ever eaten. Monterosso is also known for its shops and restaurants. During the day, wandering the streets is a joy as locals sell their goods.

As the night falls I love to walk out to the wave break area and find a comfortable spot to sit back and enjoy the sounds of the sea. During the day the city lights are still shining and the occasional fishing boat will be out to work on the fresh catch. These moments are just moments that remind me of being a local in Italy.

5. Plaza de San Nicolás, Granada Spain:

With a variety of attractions to see, including the Alhambra, Granada is a must-visit for anyone wanting to experience European culture. While this Moorish palace is not to be missed, catching a glimpse of the interior from Plaza de San Nicols is a must-see.

Plaza de Albaicin is located in the Albaicin neighborhood of Granada. It offers a great view of the Fortress and the surrounding area.

Before dusk, I usually set out to look for this wall, which is bordered by Plaza de San Nicols. The people stop and look at the wall as it rises, and then as the sun begins to set, the Alhambra lights up with bright spotlights.
